I. COVID Testing
At Boston Prep, health and safety is our number one priority. We ask for your help, as families, in a few ways.
Keep your child home if they are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 or have been in close contact with someone with COVID-19. If you believe your child is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 or has been exposed to someone with COVID-19, please immediately contact our nurses, Ms. Golafaie and Ms. Fenoglietto, at nurses@bostonprep.org. Our nurses will partner with you to determine whether your child must remain home from school and for how long.
If you have not yet registered your child for our FREE COVID testing program, please do so now!
II. Back to School Night: Wednesday, October 6
Back to School Night will be held virtually - via Zoom. Join us online to meet your child’s teachers, learn about curriculum and grading, and more! The new date will be on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, 6-7:15pm. Link will be shared soon!
III. SAT Update
The upcoming SAT has been cancelled! Typically every fall, Boston Prep provides all seniors with the opportunity to take the SAT during a school day. Given the need to prioritize academic learning within classrooms and the fact that all colleges and universities remain test optional due to the pandemic, we have decided to cancel the October 13th SAT at Boston Prep. If your senior would still like to take the SAT, they will need to register for the November 6th SAT at an off-site location. Mr. Canto and Mrs. Dewey will be able to assist your senior in registering for that date if there is interest. You can reach Mr. Canto at: acanto@bostonprep.org or Ms. Dewey at: sdewey@bostonprep.org
IV. Rocktober
With all the challenges this pandemic has created, Boston Prep will continue with our tradition of ROCKtober. Our tradition has and will continue to positively impact our students and allow them to feel remembered and celebrated, and everyone can stay connected in meaningful ways with each other. I think we can agree that it’s worth the investment since it will contribute to higher morale, belongingness, civility, kindness, and so many more of the other goals we strive to achieve. Common events at school are important for students both socially and academically and a good school spirit and a sense of membership are built of many different factors, and the key issue is that the classes and the school as a whole work together.
As we celebrate ROCKtober we will have dress down days, photo booths, themed masks & accessories. One Team and students are encouraged and welcomed to participate by bringing our School Commitments to life and continuing to Rise like a Phoenix!
We will begin this yearly tradition on Monday,October 4, 2021. There will be events throughout the week as well as special prizes and opportunities to dress up on certain days, following certain themes. If your child will not be dressing up, students are expected to be in full uniform. The first week our focus will be on “Committing to Seek and Understand Diverse Perspectives.”
Every Wednesday in October students and One Team can wear Pink in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Stay tuned for all the fun details we have planned for the month!

VI. Community Events/Announcements
Help us celebrate Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month! Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month is an annual celebration of the history and culture of the U.S. Latinx and Hispanic communities. This event spans from September 15 to October 15 and commemorates how those communities have influenced and contributed to American society at large. The Latinx/Hispanic community is made up of diverse individuals often set apart by their country of origin or ancestral history. September 15 was chosen as the starting point for the commemoration because it is the anniversary of the independence of five Hispanic countries.
Here are some ways to learn more about and activities to honor our Latinx/Hispanic families:
Read books about and by Latinx Americans
Study Spanish
Take a spin of the globe: Research a Spanish-speaking nation
Discuss representation
Explore Latinx music
Sample some cuisine
Immerse yourself in the art
Learn through famous Latinx games
Upcoming Workshops: Throughout October, Harvard Medical School, in collaboration with the Biomedical Science Careers Program, will be hosting a series of workshops for students and families focused on a variety of post-secondary topics. As you and your family begin to think about your student’s post-secondary plans, these workshops will assist you in learning more about applying to college, how to prepare for the financial cost of college, and highlight various internships and summer opportunities.
To learn more about each session, as well as sign up, please check out this flyer! For questions, reach out to Aaron Canto, the Director of the Persistence Project, at acanto@bostonprep.org
