The Boston Prep chapter of the National Honor Society partnered with the Academy of the Pacific Rim chapter to host a week-long fundraiser to support St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. The two schools together raised $4,008 to support research and medical services to treat children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

The fundraiser was entirely student led with minimal adult support, needed only for facility reservations and other logistical items. The co-presidents of each school's chapter came together to meet weekly for about two months to plan the fundraiser. In collaboration with the school event coordinator from St. Jude's, the group set a goal of raising $2,500. However, due to their deep commitment and successful planning, they significantly surpassed that goal. Boston Prep's National Honor Society advisor, Graham VanderZanden, reflected on the leadership shown throughout the planning process. "I’m incredibly proud of our NHS leaders for stepping up. The leadership they showed during the St. Jude’s fundraiser makes me optimistic that they not only have the skills they need to succeed in college, but that they are also prepared to embody the virtues of compassion and courage that will enable them to support our community and our society in the future.”

Each school implemented their own approach to fundraising throughout the week. At Boston Prep, the week included a dress down day (in which students pay for the privilege of dressing out of uniform), a bake sale, a pizza slice sale, a coin drive, and a 50-50 opportunity drawing. The week culminated with a basketball tournament between the two schools, featuring dance performances at half-time. The basketball tournament provided an opportunity for the two schools to come together not only to support St. Jude's but to celebrate all they had accomplished together through the collaboration.

The fundraiser was a success on multiple levels, enabling student leadership and initiative, bringing together two schools in collaboration, and raising funds for important research and healthcare. National Honor Society's Co-President Daniel Adedeji reflected that while the group certainly learned a great deal and can improve in many ways in the future, he's proud of the chapter's accomplishment in this effort. "I proud of the way in which we succeeded in not only bringing joy to the Boston Prep and APR communities, but we also put smiles on the faces of children who have cancer. We boosted their confidence and helped them have more faith in knowing that there are people who are doing all that they can to support them."
