I. School Begins Monday, August 30!
We are so excited to welcome all Boston Prep students and teachers back to school, fully in-person, five days per week! Our first day of school for all students will be Monday, August 30, with doors opening at 7:30 and school beginning at 8:00 AM. Please be sure to visit our Family Resource Center for all the information you need as you prepare for the first day of school, including details regarding our health and safety measures (including masks, COVID testing, and more), our arrival and dismissal times, dress codes, and more.
II. Follow Us on Social Media
Social media is a great way to stay connected with our Phoenix Family! During the school year, we regularly share photos and videos from around the school, updates and announcements, and resources. Be sure to follow us now if you’re not already!
III. 9th Grade Math Classes
As we transition back to full time, in-person learning, we are working to ensure that any reduction or interruption in learning time in middle school does not limit any student’s ability to pursue a college preparatory course of study. Recent analysis of student achievement results showed declines nationally, most significantly in math. For some students, including Boston Prep students, remote learning and the events of the past school year limited the ability to access, practice, and demonstrate proficiency and confidence in algebra. With a solid foundation of algebra required for high school math study, and geometry required for success on the 10th grade MCAS, a graduation requirement, we will place 9th grade students in both an algebra and a geometry class for this school year. Students who consistently demonstrated proficiency on 8th grade algebra unit and interim assessments may be placed into a geometry class only; however, the majority of 9th grade students will be enrolled in both classes. Though this may limit students’ ability to choose an elective as a 9th grader, students will have elective choices in grades 10 - 12. We feel confident that their future high school courses and path of study, including access to higher level math classes such as Calculus and AP Calculus, will benefit. As schedules and course placements are finalized, please contact any of us if you would like to discuss further.
IV. August Family Town Hall: Date Change
Our August Family Town Hall will now be held on Thursday, August 26 at 6:00PM. Families are invited to join us to discuss plans for the new school year!
V. Summer Assignments
All Boston Prep students have summer assignments to complete to continue growing their skills over the summer months. Assignments are available on our Family Resources website throughout the summer. Students have different assignments, based on their grade level.
Rising 6th graders: Summer reading
Rising 7th graders: Summer reading & math
Rising 8th - 12th graders: Summer reading, math, & history
Note that “rising” indicates the grade the student will be entering in the Fall. For example, rising 6th graders are students who just completed 5th grade and will enter 6th grade in the fall.
VI. Athletics Registration
We are excited to announce the return of the Boston Prep athletics program for the upcoming school year! (Please note that we continue to monitor the safety of athletics, and our plans will adapt, as needed, in accordance with the most current health and safety guidelines.)
With 19 sports programs offered in both the middle school and high school, our student-athletes will have the opportunity to choose from a wide array of sports. Our sport offerings are as follows:
This year we are introducing an online sports registration platform called Family ID.
